Child Teach Child Story
Field Visit to Paklok Agricultural Learning Center with Children from Ban Nai Thon School
We Empower Explore Create
Child Teach Child is a community-based program in which children teach marginalized children. We empower children for a better quality of life, starting with quality education and English proficiency to enhance their opportunities. We empower children logically and creatively so they have the life skills that will be important in the future. We encourage them to think, to take action, to be creative, and to have awareness of the global issue, including climate change and sustainable development. We hope to unleash their potential for the betterment of humanity, to know their rights, and to be anyone they want in the future.
Child Tour Guide | Preserve Socio-Cultural Heritage
We went on the field trip with the kindergarten children from Ban Nai Thon School (3–5 years old), where executive function and self-regulation skills are growing at a fast pace. We are taking the children on a field trip today to learn about their community’s agricultural systems and their understanding of the connection between nature, the environment, food, lifestyle, and our well-being. Throughout the field trip, the children were encouraged to ask questions and think critically about what they were experiencing. What we are? What do we do? And why are we doing it? They have fun activities to help the environment and our community. They also gained an appreciation for their community and its agricultural systems, as well as the history and culture behind them.
Overall, this field trip was a great success in empowering the children and helping them develop essential skills that will benefit them in the long term. By providing them with real-life experiences and meaningful activities, we were able to engage their curiosity and inspire them to become environmentally conscious and active members of their community. We hope that this field trip will have a lasting impact on their learning and encourage them to continue exploring the world around them.
Executive Function
- Working Memory
The ability to hold and manipulate information mentally over short periods of time was required during the process of planting coconut trees and memorizing the fruit and plant names at the farm. - Inhibitory Control
During the field visit, there are two major activities: planting a coconut tree and making the rice ball. The children took turns planting their own coconut trees while adults supervised and waited for friends to finish planting. - Mental Flexibility
The process of planting the coconut tree required the watering process and putting the soil in the bucket; therefore, the children had to fully use their mental flexibility to put the soil in the bucket. Furthermore, the children explore the farm happily as they get to walk, run, and discover the farm and fruits.
Field Visit
Field trips are a great way for children to learn outside of the classroom and apply what they’ve learned to real-life situations while also exploring the possibilities of their own creation and learning about nature and science in the community. The children gained so much knowledge and had a great time on their field trip to Paklok.
